Last Saturday 5th June 2021, the XXVI edition of the Catalonia Wine and Sparkling Wine Competition, Giroví 2021 took place at the Carlemany Hotel in Girona.
The competition includes the participation of all Catalan Wine Regions. So, diferent wineries around present wines that where tasted blindly by a jury made up of oenologists, sommeliers, restaurateurs, consumers and professionals of the sector.
In this latest edition of the Giroví 2021 Competition, two wines from Vinyes d’Olivardots winery have been awarded with 2 GOLD MEDALS:
- Blanc de Gresa 2018: Gold Medal in the Oaky White Wines category
Blanc de Gresa 2018 is made with the autochthonous varieties of the Empordà region: white Grenache, gray Grenache and white Carignan. A 120-year-old vineyard on pebble land. It is fermented in French oak barrels and aged for 8 months with its lees.
- Gresa expression 2012: Gold Medal in the Reserve Red Wines category
Gresa 2012 is also a pure Empordà blend: Carignan and Grenache as the main varieties, accompanied by a bit of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. A union of all the lands of the Empordà area in a bottle: slate earth, granite earth and sandy ground with pebbles. In this case, Carme and Carlota, winemakers and viticulturists from Vinyes d’Olivardots, are looking for an expression of the region by aging the wine during 18 months in French oak and then letting it rest for 6 years in bottle in the cellar to achieve a good balance.
