Carlota Pena Casacuberta, recognized as Best Young Winemaker of the Year 2025

Catalan Wines Special Report 2025 by Tim Adkin

Every year, the prestigious wine critic Tim Atkin publishes his report on the wines of Catalonia, in which he evaluates and scores a selection of wines and awards different recognitions to prominent figures in the sector. In this 2025 edition, Atkin has awarded the Best Young Winemaker of the Year award to Carlota Pena Casacuberta, oenologist at the Vinyes d’Olivardots winery, located in the Empordà.

Vinyes d’Olivardots and the best rated wines of 2025

On the other hand, Tim Atkin has highlighted three wines from Vinyes d’Olivardots among the best in Catalonia, with the following scores:

  • Vd’O 6 (2022) – 96 POINTS “Considered ‘the jewel of the Empordà’, this wine comes from a century-old Carignan Blanca vineyard.” According to Atkin, it is a shining example of the potential of this variety and a safe bet for the future.

Vd’O 1 (2019) – 95 POINTS “Made with Carignan from slate soils, it offers intense and elegant aromas with ripe black fruit, orange peel, crushed stones and fresh herbs. A wine with polished tannins…”

Ethèric Red Carignan (2021) – 95 POINTS “A barrel-fermented wine with whole grapes, with a unique style. It presents notes of fresh berries, undergrowth, violets and warm earth, with a spicy and herbaceous touch.”
