Catalunya Special Report 2026 by Tim Atkin MW and Fintan Kerr

Apart from mentioning “The Best Wineries”, it also mentions for each wine category, those that have received the highest scores, generating the list “The Best White wines of the year”.Vd’O 6 – White Carignan 2023 is part of this selection of excellent wines with a score of 96 points!

Carignan blanc, a minority variety in the Empordà with only 20ha of surface area in the entire region, where at Vinyes d’Olivardots we have committed to recovering it by looking for very old vineyards. Stems from the year 1900, therefore, 126 years of history of the Finca Comamillana in alluvial soil with flint stones, which are shown through this monovarietal wine Vd’O 6.

Vd’O 6 – White Carignan 2023 is produced in stainless steel tanks, where it undergoes fermentation and a subsequent aging of 8 months on its lees. Looking for purity, soil and landscape, in a very limited edition of 1,400 bottles that is not produced every year, only those vintages that really have a very high and special quality.

Wine that is part of a collection of 9 single-vineyard wines from different terroirs called “Varietals de Terrer”.

ETHÈRIC 2022

Ethèric arises from the observation of Carlota Pena, winegrower of Vinyes d’Olivardots, and the discovery of the Finca dels Quadrons. A 90-year-old vineyard with special characteristics for being in the Empordà. In the middle of a pine forest, on a small hill in Capmany, we find some vines on terraces that form an amphitheater, with a slope and north orientation, important features for making this very special wine.

100% Carignan in granite soil, little sunlight, which allows it to be made into wine with its steams in an open 500L barrel. After fermentation, a gentle pressing is done with little extraction, followed by a 12-month aging in Austrian oak.

Ethèric and the butterfly on the label, symbolize the “ethereal body, a subtle body to the naked eye that surrounds the physical body exchanging energies for the flow of life.”

A production of exclusively 300 bottles that obtain a score of 95 Tim Atkin MW points.

Vd’O 1 – CARIGNAN SLATE SOIL 2021

From the same line of “Varietals de Terrer” wines, we have another single-vineyard red highlighted in this year’s Report by Tim Atkin and Fintan Kerr, Vd’O 1 – Carignan in slate soil 2021 from Roqué vineyard (1946) in the Albera mountains, more specifically in the town of Rabós de l’Empordà.

Vd’O is the range of wines created by Carme Casacuberta, oenologist and founder of Vinyes d’Olivardots, to explain the diversity of landscapes and vinify the local varieties of the Empordà.

A production of only 800 bottles with also 95 points on the list of the best red wines of the year according to the reviewer Tim Atkin MW.
