Viticulture

THE SOILS

Our vines grow in different types of soil that we could find in the Empordà region, highlighting the granitic, acidic and poor lands in organic matter.

Gresa

Mixture of sand and grey granite. It is the Olivardots estate soil from which our first wine took its name. This soil brings elegance and aromatic complexity to the wine.

Slate

It is located in the higher part of the Empordà surface area, about 200 m above the sea level. It adds mineral complexity to the resulting grapes.

Sand

Where we have the oldest plot of Carignane vines about 100 years old. It provides delicacy and elegance to the wine.

Gravelly

Located in the most flat in the center of the region, slightly tilted toward the southeast. It is a land formed by pebbles, sand with loamy texture. Here lie the vineyards of the white varieties.

The vineyards

Vinyes d’Olivardots has 10 hectare of vineyard in property:

4 ha. forms the main estate, they were planted in 2002 with the varieties: Grenache, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.

In the search for autochthonous grape varieties we brought other 3 ha. from old selected red Carignan vines between 50 and 100 years old.

In 2010, white wine vineyards were incorporated. White Grenache, gray Grenache and white Carignan, all them typical from Empordà region and between 90 and 120 years old.

Actually, we are planting new hectares to recover autochthonous varieties such as gray Carignan and white Carignan.

In the new vineyards we opted for the lyre trellis with some clear objectives: to increase leaf canopy to improve cluster sun exposure and aeration, to limit potential fungal disease, to obtain a better and complete ripening and with the aim of working with phytotherapy (baking of natural plant soups made by ourselves).

All these vineyards are controlled to produce low crops.

With an specific plan of pruning, de-leafing and crop thinning the grapes express the terroir where they grow, maintain its variety features and fill our wines with personality.

All our vineyards are ecological following the principles of biodynamics.

We look for everything that brings quality to the product and that has a maximum respect for the nature.
