BIODYNAMICAL
VITICULTURE
SOILS OF EMPORDÀ
Viticulture is the fundamental feature of Vinyes d’Olivardots, where Carme and Carlota, vinegrowers of the winery, bet on rigorous manual work in the vineyard with the support of animals, following organic agriculture under the principles of biodynamics and phytotherapy . The axis for making a sustainable estate, quality wines with personality and elegance that convey the landscapes and diversity of its terroirs.
Empordà is an appellation of origin very rich in different types of soil, mainly granite, slate, sandy areas and alluvial from old river soils with pebbles. Each terroir has the ability to bring unique characteristics to each of our wines.
Granite
Present in our Olivardots estate, which gave its name to our first wine. This sandy soil with weathered granite and quartz mineral brings exceptional elegance and great aromatic complexity. It is an acidic soil with little organic matter, which imbues the grapes with subtle notes originating from the majority terroir of the Empordà. <br>Sand
Particularly interesting soil, as it houses our Carinyena vineyard, which is over 100 years old. This sandy soil from eroded granite and with little organic matter provides finesse, delicacy, and elegance to the wines produced. The old vines located in this territory offer grapes with a distinctive character and exceptional complexity.Slate
Soil found in the highest vineyard areas in Empordà, at around 170 meters above sea level. This soil contributes significant minerality to the grapes, giving our wines a austere structure and a personality marked by the vine's struggle, manifested in concentration and maturity along with freshness in the wines. Located in the Serra de l’Albera and Cap de Creus area, they capture all the richness of slate and transform it into intense and vibrant flavors.Gravelly
The flatter area, in the center of the region, gently sloping towards the southeast. This area is formed by alluvial deposits, characterized by its richness in pebbles and its silty texture. It is on this terrain that our old vineyards of white varieties are found, bringing richness and vibrancy to the grapes, reflected in wines with an elegant balance, pleasant salinity, freshness, and refreshing minerality.Present in our Olivardots estate, which gave its name to our first wine.

OUR VINEYARDS
Our commitment is to cultivate the different plots in the most sustainable way possible, protecting biodiversity and preserving the life of the sun, always with the utmost respect for the earth.
The history of the winery begins with the planting of 4ha of vines in the Olivardots parage, vineyards that are currently twenty years old.
The goal of Vinyes d’Olivardots, however, was to recover old vineyards from Empordà. And bit by bit we had the possibility of acquiring centuries-old plots in the different terroirs, arriving today at 15ha.
With a specific pruning plan and a rigorous prior selection of grapes in all the vineyards, we achieve a very limited yield per hectare, which allows us to obtain highly concentrated grapes and produce quality wines.
WINE OF qualified VINEYARD
In 2021, we were awarded the Qualified Vineyard (VFQ) distinction to our Vd’O 2 – 100% Carignan wine on sandy soil, the first in this cataloging in the Denomination of Origin Empordà.
L’Hort d’en Riera is a red Carignan vineyard that dates back to 1909 in Capmany, very close to our winery. A plot that has always been vinified alone due to its special characteristics, a completely sandy soil, in an edaphological evolutionary state superior to the neighboring plots, with very low grape production for the region where it is located and worked under the sustainable philosophy of Vinyes d’Olivardots.
RECOVERY OF
AUTOCHTHONOUS VARIETIES
At Vinyes d’Olivardots we are currently immersed in the project of planting new hectares for the recovery of local white varieties such as gray and white Carignan.
This task is an essential part of our commitment to preserving the wine-growing origins of Empordà. In the new plantings, we have chosen to use the lira trellised system, with the aim of developing a greater canopy in each vine. A fact that improves the sun exposure of the grapes, allowing a complete and balanced ripening. In addition, this system keeps the plants more aerated, minimizing the risk of fungal diseases. This enables us to work with phytotherapy, using infusions of natural plants prepared by ourselves as a method of curing the vineyards.
