This year, Capmany has had the honor of hosting the Grape Harvest Festival, a traveling event that is held annually in a town in the DO Empordà to kick off the grape harvest. A festive event that combines tradition, territory and wine culture, with activities for young and old.
This year’s celebration was especially significant, as it coincided with the 50th anniversary of the DO Empordà. Half a century of harvests, collective effort and commitment to quality and the wine landscape. Capmany, recognized for its winemaking wealth and as one of the towns with the most wineries protected under the DO Empordà seal, has thus become the capital of Empordà wine during this very special weekend.

A program for all audiences
The festival program has been designed to be enjoyed by everyone. The events began on Friday, August 22 with a tasting of sweet Garnatxes de l’Albera, organized by Agrobodega El Parral. A tasting that brought together six selected Garnatxes, with the aim of highlighting this variety so deeply rooted in the territory. The event was a resounding success and it has already been announced that it will be repeated next year.
On Saturday the 23rd, the party continued in full swing. At 6 pm, the Grallers d’Espolla, the Jove Confraria and the giants of Capmany began a parade to the old El Parral Agricultural Cooperative. There, the traditional grape trampling took place, an activity that excited both children and adults.
In the evening, starting at 8 p.m., five wineries in the town, located in architecturally unique places, offered a tasting tour through the historic center. More than 700 people were able to taste their wines and learn about the passion behind each bottle. The party closed in the Plaça Major with a display of local producers, a wine bar and live music, creating an unbeatable atmosphere.

Una festa per recordar
A festival to remember The Veremade Capmany Festival has been one of the most emotional and participatory in recent years, not only due to the quality of the programming and the involvement of the people, but also due to the emblematic coincidence with the 50th anniversary of the DO Empordà.
Thanks to the Empordà Designation of Origin, the Capmany Town Council and the entire organizing team for making possible a celebration that will undoubtedly remain in the memory of all who participated!
